We Are Grampian Consulting

We specialize in providing Flow Assurance services as part of the field development planning process, including operations support of producing assets. Our goal is to optimize recovery and enhance production over the life of field through the application of suitable strategies and philosophies to prevent solid deposition and operational constraints in oil and gas systems.

Our expertise lies in developing an integrated approach to evaluate production from the wellbore to the host facility over the project life cycle. In doing so, we strive to produce exceptional quality and value in all we do, and ultimately deliver practical solutions that fit with our client’s needs.

We offer advice and support for a wide range of disciplines, addressing short-term goals and long-term objectives in order to implement cost-effective solutions.

Hot Topic in Field Development Planning

Thermal management is a flow assurance strategy based on maintaining flowing temperatures outside of the wax and hydrate regions during normal operation, and providing a cooldown time to hydrate formation following a planned or unplanned shutdown.
Learn More
Thermal management solutions are field specific, with factors such as wellhead flowing temperature, tie-back distance, fluid type,  flow assurance threats, rheology, turndown rate, and host configuration (e.g. water depth / available riser slots) driving the strategy.

Passive thermal management can be achieved using wet insulated and pipe-in-pipe flowlines, with U-values of approximately 0.50 and 0.25 Btu/hr.ft².°F based on outside diameter, respectively, or better,

Active solutions involve the addition of heat to the system through circulation of hot liquid or an electric heat source. While the production bundle remains tried and tested, recent advances in technology allow the industry to move to a low power electrically heat traced configuration for deep water. Consideration must be given to the riser(s), as it usually becomes the critical element in the flow assurance strategy given that it is the furthest distance from the production source, and in particular, if active heating cannot be employed.

A thermal management solution should be robust and practical. Find out how to get the most pragmatic strategy in place for your project.
